Dropout Schools

Another noteworthy programme taken up by Jamiyyatul Falah is the effort to arrest school dropout rate in the Muslim community. In the course of our involvement with education, we found out that the dropout rate among Muslim students had reached alarming level, because of poverty, lack of awareness and negligence on the part of parents. In order to address this issue, we launched an unique programme called “Back to School.” As part of this initiative, children who had discontinue their education at std VI, VII, & VIII or do petty jobs, were identified and special classes were conducted for them near their houses. They were made to appear for SSLC examination directly and provided vocational guidance and monetary assistance to pursue further education.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana is an ambitious programme of the Union Government under which special training is imparted to teachers, students and parents to improve the quality of education. Jamiyyatul Falah functioned as a nodal agency for the schemes meant for minorities under the Abhiyana, for a period of five years. During this period, we contributed double the monetary assistance given by the government and ensured that the benefits of the scheme reach poor children and their parents in the nook and corner of the two districts. The role of Jamiyyatul Falah was widely appreciated in this regard. Though the government has stopped this programme due to policy changes, we have been continuing with selected initiatives at our expense.
